The sixth grade celebrated "pi day" (March 14) by doing different activities including eating PIE and having a PI digit recitation.  In Mrs. Millers class, Lauren memorized 173 digits followed by Addison, Erin, and Ella, who all recited more than 100 digits of pi!!  Now that's a lot of pi!

Literacy month continues with "Flashlight Friday".  Students brought their flashlights to school and teachers gave them some time to turn off the lights, pull out their books and flashlights, and enjoy a little reading time.  Take a look at our Kindergarten students reading and discovering with their flashlights!  Let's finish strong with improved literacy this month!

Literacy Month Continues!

Last Friday the students and teachers came to school in their PJ's and had an opportunity to relax and read! The kids enjoyed having some free time to spread out and read.  Next Friday the students will be bringing flashlights and taking some time to read in the dark.  Thanks to our PTA for planning these fun Literacy activities.  Keep working on BINGO cards and turning in Literacy Slips!

On Friday we will say goodbye to our Head Custodian, Mr. Quinton Morse.  Mr. Morse has been at Hobble Creek for the past four years and is moving to another position in the district.  The faculty and staff presented Mr. Morse with some treats and tools and a big thank you!  Mr. Morse has been the quiet guy behind the scenes keeping our school clean and safe so we have a great learning environment for students and teachers.  We will miss Mr. Morse and wish him well in his new position.

THANK YOU MR. MORSE!

Dear community partners:

Join us in sharing the news – PBS KIDS Utah is celebrating 20 years of the Writers and Illustrators Contest! This year’s theme is Celebrate the Great Outdoors. The contest is an initiative that fosters imagination and creativity in young artists and writers. Every year, PBS KIDS Utah invites children K-6th grades throughout the state to participate.

I want to support your efforts in this year’s contest. Please reach out to me if you are interested in hosting writing workshops or if you have a fun idea to get the kids in your area excited about submitting a story. I would be happy to send PBS KIDS goodies as incentives to you, your students, and your patrons! You can start promoting the contest by displaying and distributing the enclosed/attached posters and entry forms.

I hope you will join us in bringing the love of reading and the joy of self-expression to children in your community. If you are interested in being involved, please contact me using the information below. PBS Kids Utah Writers & Illustrators Contest information can be found at www.pbsutah.org/writers.

Sincerely,

March is Literacy Month at Hobble Creek

Submitted by tori.bennett on

Monday morning students were greeted by teachers and staff who were dressed up as their favorite book characters!  This was the kick off for our Literacy Month, sponsored by the PTA!  There are lots of fun activities planned that will promote literacy throughout the month.  Literacy is not JUST about reading. "Literacy is the ability to Read, Write, Spell, Listen and Speak"  Students have the opportunity to win prizes through random drawings by completing literacy activities.

We hope that families will continue to encourage and support their students in various types of literacy.
