The 5th grade field trip to the Springville Power Plant on September 27th was a fun learning experience for the students. They learned how Springville City makes electrical power and uses it. Thank you Springville for having us! The experience was writtten down by a student at Hobble Creek, Bryce Jameson. Great story Bryce!

Power Plant Field Trip

When I got to the power plant, it stunk so bad that everyone had to plug their nose.

After that we went to look at 2 new generators and 2 old generators. The generators were really huge. It was about the size of a small classroom. Then we went to the control room. We learned that the generators powered the plant. Also they used gas and another machine turned the gas into electricity for other homes.

Then we had to rotate to another place. When we got there he showed us a Jacob’s ladder. He also showed us the old light bulb compared to the new light bulb.  Then he showed us magnetism. He let us have free time. We also touched a ball that had static electricity on it and we got shocked! It scared me so bad.

We had to rotate to the last station. We learned how to protect ourselves from getting electrocuted by wires when they fell.  We did this really cool experiment where we saw that the helmet and gloves protect the power line people.  The people showed us that there face got electrocuted, but with the helmet the dummy didn’t burn. We did the same thing with the gloves.  At the end we had free time watching the fire. After that  we had cookies and lemonade. This was one of the best field trips ever.
