Hobble Creek Teachers elected Carol Day as Hobble Creek's Teacher of the Year. She is part of the Nebo pool of recognized teachers from which a Nebo teacher of the year will be selected.
Carol is a graduate of Hasting College in Hastings Nebraska. She holds a Professional Educator License from the state of Utah with endorsements in Gifted Education and Theatre. She has two daughters. One lives in Seattle and the other in Ithaca New York.
She serves as DART (District Art Resource Team) school representative, Publicity on the school website, Art Committee Coordinator with Beverly Taylor Sorenson Teaching Artist, coordinating arts teacher development, networking with teachers to meet the needs of gifted students, teaching 6th grade advanced math, extending math reteach groups in grades 3,5 & 6, K-6 the grade gifted and talented pull-out groups. She attended the SITES Arts and Democracy Seminars for four years, and organized school recycling teams.
She has served as President of Nebo Gifted Children’s Association, NGCA, for 16 years. During this time the organization has developed Chess Club at the school level. Also coordinating Bright Ideas Saturdays and Bright Ideas Summer. She is a debate coach for 5th and 6th grade students as well as teaching debate skills as a part of persuasive writing. She serves on the Utah Debate Committee traveling to SLC to coordinate the state debate program. She has written and coordinated arts grants for 26 years at Mapleton Elem. and Hobble Creek. The schools received awards ranging from $500-$10,000 per grant from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums and the National Endowment for the Arts. She serves on the Board of Directors for daCi Utah, (dance and the Child international) as treasurer managing grants to provide inter-generational days of dance annually.
Carol believes that each student has the right to learn something new every day. Students are the reason for giving her time and talent.
