Mrs York is the Hobble Creek Crystal Apple Award Winner

Mrs. York. Was chosen by her fellow teachers to receive the award that is sponsored by Horace Mann Insurance Company. Mary Lynne York is the 2013-14 recipient of the Crystal Apple Award for Hobble Creek Elementary School. Mrs. York has taught 19 years, 12 at Hobble Creek Elementary. Mrs. York is an extra-miler! In the nomination forms Mrs. York was described as “a hard worker” who is “dedicated to education.” One teacher said, “She is so sweet and willing to help anyone.” Another wrote, “Mrs. York gives 110% to her students. She is often found in her classroom late at night, before the sun rises in the morning and on weekends!” Mrs. McAfee, a fellow third grade teacher says, “Mary Lynne is a master craftsman and her craft is teaching! She is very creative and uses music & art to help students learn. She is an expert at using hands-on strategies in math and helping children increase their fluency in reading. She is a supportive friend and has a fun sense of humor.” Her principal, Mike Johnson says, “Mary Lynne is a wonderful teacher who is dedicated to her students and her school. She is reliable and a very hard worker. Mary Lynne truly wants what is best for children.” In 2012, Mrs. York earned a master’s equivalency in art education. Besides teaching, she loves traveling with her husband, playing the piano, gardening and spending time with her grandkids.
