Hobble Creek fourth grade students joined fourth grade students from area elementary schools at Maple Mountian High School for a concert by Utah Symphony on Tuesday December 4, 2012. Students dressed up and tuned up by discussing materials sent to their teachers by Utah Symphony. Conductor Valdimir Kulenovic asked the students to think of the music in terms of color, feeling and imagery The students were introduced to the instrument families. They heard Finlandia and Symphony #1 by Sibelius. The conductor asked the students to think about contrasts and the call and response among instruments. Handel's "Firework Music" was an upbeat contrast to the peaceful images they heard in Sibelius. the Symphony also performed Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake", Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" and Debussy "Afternoon of the Faun" . One fourth grade student commented, "I was astonished that I recognized the music from TV and movies."
