Sixth Grade Social Studies Experiment

Submitted by tori.bennett on

Mrs. Miller's sixth grade class has been learning about Ancient Egypt Civilization.  We learned about pyramids, hieroglyphics, pharaohs,  and the mummification process.  We experimented by “mummifying” apple slices in different solutions to see which one would preserve an apple the best.  We used baking soda, water, vinegar, salt, sugar and no preservative and let them sit in a cupboard for the week.  We found that water and salt preserve the apples best and baking soda preserved them the worst!,

Welcome to the Ancient World!

Submitted by tori.bennett on

This term our sixth grade classes have been studying the Ancient Worlds of Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia  and China. Today they brought in their final  projects to share with their classes.  Students had the option of dressing up and our sixth grade teachers set a great example! So many amazing projects with lots of time, research and hard work.  Way to go sixth grade!

The sixth grade celebrated "pi day" (March 14) by doing different activities including eating PIE and having a PI digit recitation.  In Mrs. Millers class, Lauren memorized 173 digits followed by Addison, Erin, and Ella, who all recited more than 100 digits of pi!!  Now that's a lot of pi!

Literacy Month Continues!

Submitted by tori.bennett on

Literacy month continues with "Flashlight Friday".  Students brought their flashlights to school and teachers gave them some time to turn off the lights, pull out their books and flashlights, and enjoy a little reading time.  Take a look at our Kindergarten students reading and discovering with their flashlights!  Let's finish strong with improved literacy this month!
