Hobble Creek Elementary's STUDENTS OF THE WEEK on Friday, February 28, 2014:  Chase Johnston, Jocelyn Merrell, Anna McMaster, Izabel Peterson, Dylan Anderson, Jackson Sharpe, Hayley Brimhall, Brody Colton, Milana Henke, Lyndsay Vineyard, Annie Rex, Brooklyn Thomas, Kylie Christensen, Porter Stevens, Rose Dungan, Olivia Smith, Jack Schreiner, Paige Snyder, Garrett Haynie, and Cayden Webster.

As a culminating event for social studies students competed in Javelin, cup stacking, discus.  

Fifth grade students became a wax museum of famous people in American History.  Students researched a famous person from one of the 50 states, dressed as the character and where ready to sare information about the people with the student body and the parents. 

The third grade students presented the school community with a Patriotic Program. 

The 6th grade orchestra performed for the gathered principals and PTA presidents. School secretary Linda Baird received the Spirit of the PTA Award at a meeting of the Springville/Mapleton PTA Council.

Here are some of the attributes that were mentioned in the award ceremony:  She is extremely organized!  She is supportive of the PTA . She helps with anything, school carnival, book fair, teaching new PTA board members how to send off copies, getting us supplies.  Not only physically supportive, but also emotionally supportive – always asking how things are going.  Anyone who walks into the office will see that she is always busy, efficiently using her time. One child summed it up well – She does everything for us. She can see when people are having a hard day and she tries to lift them up.  Mr. Johnson, our principal said, “Linda always thinks ahead and plans for anything that might come our way.  She helps the school run so smoothly each and everyday with a dedication and an amazing work ethic.  Linda truly makes a difference in the lives of people here at Hobble Creek.”

Utah Opera’s Resident Artists visited our school and to share their love of opera with our students. The Resident Artists introduced the elements of an opera in a " who wants to be a millionaire" format and performed selections of several well-known operas.

Chess Tournament for Elementary,
Jr. High, and High School

Saturday March 1, 2014 8:30 am-2:30 pm approximately Cherry Creek Elementary 484 S. 200 E. Springville, 84663 Please enter through east doors.

•   Check in by 8:30 am, instructions at 8:45 am.

•   6 rounds—all students get to play all 6 rounds.

•   Grades K-12th –K-6 students get to play others within their own grade.

  Grades 7-9 will be grouped together into one section—grades 10-12

  will be grouped with 7-9 unless there are plenty for their own section.

•   Rounds are up to 50 minutes each (i.e. approximately 25 minutes per

  player). Some grades may finish sooner.

•   Trophies will be awarded for 1st -12th place per section, and for top 12

  schools. All other players will receive a medal.

•   Tie breaks will be decided by the computer.

•   Information available for those interested in starting a chess club.

  Lunch will be available for purchase:
  pizza $1.00, drinks $.50, snacks & chips, etc.

  Chess sets, chess software, and chess books available for purchase.

  How to register:

  Cost $8.00 if you register and pay by Feb 15, or $15 if by Feb 27. Registrations accepted only through Thursday, Feb 27—
  no registration or payment accepted at the door.
  Student must be in Nebo School District boundaries, whether attending public, charter, or home school.
  Supervision of children is the responsibility of the parents. Parents and other spectators may not interact with players while they are competing.

Sixth grade students participated in the Hobble Creek Science Fair.  The winners of the science fair that will go on to the Nebo district Science Fair are: Blake Harison, Izzy Hixon, Andrew Jensen, Rylee Anderson, Paige Jensen, Madi Henderson, Emma Mousser, Josh Lewis, Aubrey Nissen,  and Bryon Reese
