Nebo Education Foundation Provides Grants to Second Grade

Hobble Creek Elementary – Esther Hill
“Thank you so much for awarding Hobble Creek Elementary's second grade with a Nebo Education Foundation grant! We are very excited to use the grant money to buy new stereo headsets with microphones for our students,” said Esther Hill, a second-grade teacher at Hobble Creek Elementary. “Our students use earphones daily and they are constantly breaking.  We have bought very inexpensive headsets in the past and they never last long. The grant from the Nebo Education Foundation will allow us to purchase great quality headsets that will last two years! The microphones will enable students to record themselves while reading text, and giving explanations of their work!
Next year Hobble Creek Elementary will have four second-grade classes. The grant will allow us to purchase 94 headsets, with 23 in each classroom!  We are so grateful for the Nebo Education Foundation's generous donation!”

Households Must Apply for Free or Reduced-price Lunch by May 6 To Be Eligible for Pandemic EBT

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah households will need to apply for free or reduced-price meal benefits with their local school no later than May 6 to be potentially eligible for pandemic EBT (P-EBT). P-EBT can help individuals purchase food if their children have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price meals due to school closures from COVID-related emergencies, or other COVID-related school absences during the 2021-2022 school year. To qualify for P-EBT, individuals must be signed up for free or reduced-price school meals.

During the 2021-22 school year, all students, regardless of income status, can receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each day they attend school. However, this does not qualify students for P-EBT, nor does it automatically give students free-reduced status. To determine the free-reduced status of a student, individuals must apply through their school.

Individuals can find information on how to contact their local school at:  https://www.uah.org/get-help/school-meals

Please visit  jobs.utah.gov/PEBT for more information on the P-EBT program.

Mrs. Flakes 3rd Grade Learns About The Air Force

Stockton Haslem came to talk about his experience in the Air Force.

Jack Haslem's older brother Stockton came and told Mrs. Flakes 3rd grade class about his experience joining the Air Force, going to boot camp, and learning how to maintain and fix fighter jets. He did 35 pushups in 35 seconds! The students learned a lot about following orders, staying fit and healthy, and about why we show respect and gratitude to people who serve in the military.
